Problem:
Pipe broken from chamber leaving no external surface to connect coupling

Objective:
Provide a quick and cost-effective solution for repairing a rocker pipe that has broken, leaving no external surface area for connecting a standard coupling.

Solution:
Flexseal’s Icon was used the create an internal pipe connection, saving days of labour and additional costs.

Anglian Water were challenged with an all too common situation when they attended a job to replace a broken pipe.

The problem pipe was a rocker pipe that had been connected into a chamber and encased in concrete up to the chamber. The top of the pipe had broken and had collapsed in on itself. However, the break in the pipe was at the surface of the concrete, leaving no external surface area to connect a traditional coupling

The local teams all stock Flexseal Icon Couplings in their vehicles. The team on the job used the internally connecting coupling to quickly create a watertight seal from the existing pipe to the new rocker pipe.

The steps to installation included, applying a small amount of Flexseal lubricant onto the coupling, inserting the coupling into the bore of both pipes and tightening the bolt to expand the coupling to the internal surface of both pipes.

Total time to make the connection: 10 minutes.

“The Icon saved us a huge amount of time, intensive labor and cost; situations like this were the reason we decided to hold stock of the Icon’s in our vehicles.”
